Greene County OEM

Springfield, MO — In the aftermath of recent severe storms, many areas across Greene County are experiencing power outages that have rendered a number of our Outdoor Warning Sirens non-operational.

The Springfield-Greene County Office of Emergency Management (OEM) is actively working with local partners to assess system status and restore functionality as soon as possible. However, residents are reminded that Outdoor Warning Sirens are only one part of the county’s emergency notification system—and are not intended to be heard indoors or serve as the sole source of warning.

“Outdoor warning sirens are designed to alert people who are outdoors at the time of a threat,” said Larry Woods, Director of the Springfield-Greene County Office of Emergency Management. “Power disruptions make it more important than ever for residents to have multiple methods to receive potentially life-saving warnings.”

OEM strongly encourages all residents to ensure they have multiple ways to receive severe weather alerts, including:

  • NOAA Weather Radios (with battery backup)

  • Wireless Emergency Alerts (WEA) on smartphones

  • Local TV and radio broadcasts

  • Trusted weather and emergency management apps

The recent storms serve as a reminder that weather can change rapidly. Taking personal responsibility by utilizing multiple alert systems helps protect lives during high-impact events.

We appreciate the community’s patience as restoration efforts continue. OEM will provide updates on siren status and public safety messages as they become available.
