Greene County, MO — Greene County has officially received a Public Assistance Disaster Declaration (FEMA-4876-DR-MO) following the severe storms containing straight-line winds, tornadoes, and flooding that occurred April 29, 2025. The declaration, approved on June 9 2025, authorizes federal funding to support local response and recovery efforts. This declaration does not include Individual Assistance for residents or households. Rather, it focuses on Public Assistance, which supports the repair, restoration, and protection of critical public infrastructure and services.
The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) has approved assistance under Categories A through F of the Public Assistance program, which covers both Emergency and Permanent Work regarding storm damage. Greene County along with Barry, Lawrence, McDonald, Newton, and Washington Counties are included.
Assistance Categories
Emergency Work:
Category A – Debris Removal: Includes the removal of storm-related debris that poses a threat to public health and safety.
Category B – Emergency Protective Measures: Covers urgent actions such as search and rescue, emergency sheltering, and distribution of essential resources.
Permanent Work:
Category C – Roads and Bridges: Restoration of damaged transportation infrastructure.
Category D – Water Control Facilities: Repairs to structures like dams and levees.
Category E – Public Buildings and Contents: Recovery of public facilities and equipment.
Category F – Public Utilities: Repair of systems including electricity, water, sewage, and communications.
While we await formal notification from the Missouri State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA), the Governor has acknowledged the declaration publicly, and we will continue monitoring FEMA’s website for updates. More information will be shared with local officials and the public as it becomes available. Additional designations may be made as further assessments are completed. This could not be done without the combined efforts of our storm assessment teams, staff, volunteers, and local partners responding to the April 29 storms.
