Springfield, Missouri — Greene County Assessor Brent Johnson reminds all Greene County residents and business owners that their 2026 Personal Property Assessment Lists are due March 1st, 2026. Because March 1st falls on a Sunday this year, the filing deadline will be extended to Monday, March 2nd, 2026.
Missouri law requires all individuals and businesses to report taxable tangible personal property owned, held, or controlled as of January 1st each year. This includes, but is not limited to:
Motor vehicles, trailers, boats, and recreational vehicles
Farm equipment and livestock
Business machinery, equipment, furniture, and fixtures
“In January, we mailed more than 135,000 assessment lists and postcards to property owners,” Johnson said. “If you did not receive a list or postcard, or if you have misplaced your original form, please contact our office for assistance. As of February 26th, we have received approximately 57% of the lists mailed.”
Failure to file by the March deadline will result in a statutory late filing penalty as required by Missouri law.
Johnson added, “While submissions received after the March deadline are considered late, Missouri law allows the Assessor to waive the late filing penalty if the completed list is received by May 1st.” Reminder notices will be mailed at the end of March to property owners whose lists have not yet been returned.
