GREENE COUNTY, Missouri – The Springfield-Greene County Office of Emergency Management is pleased to announce it will host a free Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) Basic Academy April 4 and 11, 2026. Participants will be required to attend both classes from 9 AM to 5 PM. The first class will be held at the Public Safety Center (330 W. Scott St), and the second class will be held at the Springfield Fire Department Training Facility (3131 S. Clifton Ave).
This course is designed to help prepare local citizens for what to do if they are impacted by an emergency. Students will learn basic disaster response skills, such as:
• Fire safety and suppression
• Light search and rescue
• Disaster psychology
• Disaster medical operations
The training will close with a simulated disaster to practice learned skills. Those who complete the course will have the opportunity to become a member of the Springfield-Greene County CERT team. The CERT team assists first responders in times of emergency, such as post-storm damage assessment, searching for missing people, and assisting in special events such as the Ozark Empire Fair.
