Duties and Responsibilities
Conduct Studies and Recommend Plans
Conduct in-depth studies to assess and recommend plans, goals, and objectives related to the growth and development of the City.
Present findings and recommendations to the Board of Aldermen for consideration.
Prepare and Recommend Policies, Ordinances, and Administrative Procedures
Develop and propose policies, ordinances, and administrative procedures to ensure coordinated and efficient implementation of City plans.
Collaborate with the Board of Aldermen to establish a comprehensive approach to City development.
Regulate Land Development
Formulate regulations and requirements for the coordinated development of land within the City.
Recommendations may include coordination of streets, provision of open spaces, population distribution, and utility facility installations in accordance with Chapter 89, RSMo.
Hearing and Recommendations on Zoning Matters
Hold public hearings on rezoning applications, conditional use permits, and amendments to the Zoning Map.
Provide recommendations to the Board of Aldermen regarding the approval or disapproval of these applications and amendments.
Review and Recommend Zoning Regulations
Conduct studies, hold public hearings, and make recommendations to the Board of Aldermen on modifications and amendments to zoning regulations.
Fulfill Additional Requests from the Board of Aldermen
Undertake any additional work or activity as requested by the Board of Aldermen in accordance with Chapter 89, RSMo.

The Ozarks Transportation Organization (OTO) is the federally designated Metropolitan Planning Organization (MPO) for the Springfield Missouri area responsible for coordinating regional transportation planning, safety and funding. It serves as a collaborative forum for local governments and agencies in Christian and Greene counties to plan roads, transit and trails. Help shape the future of transportation in the Ozarks. The OTO is updating Next Stop 2050, the region's long range transportation plan guiding investments through 2050. Public input is a key part of the process. West Walker Street will be shut down, between Westwood Drive and Ivey Lane, as construction crews from the Old Wire Road subdivision replace the lateral line of the sewer system that runs under that street. This project is scheduled to take place April 13th - 15th. A small detour will be in place during that period of time.

There will be an Advisory Park Board meeting on Thursday, April 9th at 6:30 pm in City Hall. The public is welcome to attend.

The Battlefield Advisory Parks Board is accepting volunteers to participate in the establishment of a new community garden at Battlefield's Cherokee Trail of Tears Park (Battlefield City Park). The volunteer positions are open to all Battlefield citizens. No green thumbs required, only a passion for serving the community and working with neighbors.
The first volunteer meeting will be held immediately after the next regular Parks Board meeting at City Hall at 6:30pm on April 9th, 2026. We will register volunteers (contact information and availability), evaluate potential garden sites in the park, and decide what and how much to plant.
